Our Philosophy

FitMed Pulse is the brainchild of Dr Theo Shemansky. Theo is a GP working on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland in private practice. Theo has a keen interest in health and wellness, as well as in fitness. From his work in his practice as well as from his time spent studying exercise and fitness, particularly in those over 50, he realised that many of the conditions and complaints that he would see were preventable and treatable through functional movement therapy. Initially he started with his own patients teaching them how to move better and achieve greater movement proficiency, and through this he found that the benefits were wide reaching. This was then the catalyst for FitMed Pulse which allows him to share the benefits of functional movement training with a much greater audience.

Why Functional Movement?

Functional movements are movements that we do every day. They are essential to life. Getting down and up from a chair or toilet independently, lifting a bag of groceries off the floor, or putting something on a shelf above our head are all essential to our ongoing independence. Functional movement training allows us to hone these skills and ensure that we do not lose them to "old age". Many of the losses that we put down to "getting older" are actually a result of us not doing those movements anymore because we were not moving well, and this was causing pain or disability so we stopped them. This however is a slippery slope to decrepitude, and if not addressed will increase our chances of needing to rely on others in our old age for the essentials of life.
We Need Our Functional Capacity To Always Exceed Our Functional Needs.
